Well Duh???? How many times have I asked the confronting question "Do you want to get well?" and people look at me like I was an idiot but the truth is most people really don't want to get well. Most of us want our circumstances to change or we want to vent, piss moan whine, etc. or we want people to feel sorry for us so we can be martyrs or we want things to magically change without any effort, but WELL? Really? In John 5:6 – 8 (NIV) Jesus begins a conversation with a man that is sitting by the "healing" pool at Bethesda. The man has had someone bring him there daily for years, I have heard over 30 years……"When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?" "Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me." Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.""
I see in this man what I have seen in myself and countless others, excuses as to why he can't get well. Blaming other people and his circumstances for his condition. Waiting on conditions to change in order to be well. Jesus obviously didn't have any boundary or co-dependency issues, his response was TAKE ACTION! "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk".
If you are taking no action you haven't really made a decision to make a change yet. What does getting up, picking up your mat and walking mean in your life today?
